Plastics Packaging to Spur EVOH

Chemical Week, August 21, 2002

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) growth will drive demand for gas-barrier resins, particularly ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) copolymers, says Andrew Eldib, president of Eldib Engineering & Research (Berkeley Heights, NJ). PET bottle demand in the U.S. is about 4 billion lbs/year, and gas-barrier resins account for less than 10% of that, Eldib says. Total U.S. demand for PET using gas-barrier resins is projected to grow at 20%-30%/year, he says.
