Here is the link to the August 10, 2007 decision of the United States International Trade Commission finding that the Chinese dumping associated with laminated woven bags has resulted in a material retardation of the U.S. domestic manufacturing industry. Currently, the United States Department of Commerce is investigating to determine the level of tariffs and countervailing duties that will be applied to future importations into the U.S. from China.

Packing Them in With Potato Alternative
Century Newspapers Limited, July 17, 2002
FOOD packaging made from low-grade potatoes is now
appearing on British supermarket shelves, and could become far
more widely used after it was one of the key features of the Non
Food Crops exhibit at the 2002 Royal Show. The new packaging has

World Biaxially Oriented PP Consumption
at All Time High: Analysis
HIgh Performance Plastics, August
1, 2002
The world market for biaxially oriented PP (BOPP)
films reached more than 3 Mt in 2001. This is the largest amount
of BOPP ever consumed and is indicative of how these films have
rapidly replaced cellulose films in a wide range of packaging
applications. However, despite long-term healthy growth rates-
consumption levels for BOPP increased 10% a year through most
of the 1990s- the industry has tended to suffer from poor margins
as producers have aggressively sought to increase or protect their
market share. Further, strong increases in capacity during the
1990s have let to oversupply in some regions.

Plastics Packaging
to Spur EVOH
Chemical Week, August 21, 2002
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) growth will drive
demand for gas-barrier resins, particularly ethylene vinyl alcohol
(EVOH) copolymers, says Andrew Eldib, president of Eldib Engineering
& Research (Berkeley Heights, NJ). PET bottle demand in the
U.S. is about 4 billion lbs/year, and gas-barrier resins account
for less than 10% of that, Eldib says. Total U.S. demand for PET
using gas-barrier resins is projected to grow at 20%-30%/year,
he says.
